Galapagos.

The very word alone evokes images of a far-off, otherworldly place where fantastic creatures roam across strange, beautiful landscapes and swim in mysterious waters.

Close your eyes for a second and think about it. Galapagos. You no doubt picture a world that might exist only on a movie screen or in the excited writings on weathered pages of scientific journals.

Galapagos.

The other thing that hearing that word always brought to our minds, was the idea that – as incredible a place as it may be – it’s a place that we’d never be able to actually see with our own eyes. Even as “professional” travelers we simply never really imagined we’d get the opportunity to visit the Galapagos, because… well, we’re not sure, really…. just because. Maybe because it has always seemed so strange and wonderful and out of reach. The exclusive realm of the scientists, the super rich, or the super-connected. All of which we obviously ain’t.

So you can imagine our delight when we were actually able to make arrangements to visit the Galapagos through our great friends at Adventure Life. It was then that we not only learned that yes! we’d be able to go – but that the Galapagos is absolutely within the reach of practically anyone who wanted to go. No, it’s not necessarily cheap. But it’s not outrageously expensive either. You don’t have to be Bill Gates. You don’t have to be an accomplished naturalist. And you don’t have to have any high-level government connections.

All of that sounds a bit naive we’re sure – especially to those who have either studied and/or actually been to the Galapagos. Truth be told, getting to the Galapagos is no more difficult than getting to a lot of other spectacular places on earth, especially these days. And proof of that lies in the fact that tourism is booming in the Galapagos, and more people than ever are crossing the islands off of their proverbial bucket lists.

So here it is! The kickoff of our incredible adventure in the Galapagos. And as you’ll see (and as you might notice yourself if you ever get to visit) the first few minutes of the journey weren’t exactly a whole lot of fun. But then – once the adventure really begins – it grabs hold of you and won’t let go. And yes, it’s every bit as fantastic and awe-inspiring as we’d always imagined.

We’ve got lots and lots and lots of great stuff to share from the Galapagos in the next few weeks. So we hope you’ll follow along! And we hope that we can convince you to get up, get out, and visit this incredible place sooner rather than later.

Cheers gang! And happy travels. 🙂
