Where We Stayed: A Video Tour of Our Galapagos Catamaran

With our epic Galapagos adventure underway, we thought it would be a good idea to give you a little peek inside our ride around the islands: our catamaran, the Seaman Journey (or Seaman II). Check out the video above, and some of the photos we snapped below. Not bad, eh?

We actually had a choice of two different boats to take on our cruise around the islands: the Seaman Journey and one other yacht, which honestly was the more luxurious of the two. But if you know us at all, you know we’re not really big into “luxury” travel. Just not typically how we like to roll. But more importantly – and the main reason we chose the Seaman Journey over the other boat – is that the Seaman Journey was traveling to the western Galapagos Islands, while the other boat’s itinerary would have taken us to the eastern islands.

Now there’s a fair amount of debate as to which itinerary is “better,” western or eastern, northern or southern. And we wrestled with that decision for a couple of weeks before deciding on the western, and on the Seaman Journey. It just seemed like the western islands offered more of what we wanted to see and experience in the Galapagos, and we’re absolutely confident we made the right choice. No regrets! (Not that you can go wrong either way… it’s the freaking Galapagos after all, and it’s all spectacular.) Plus! Next time we go – and we certainly hope there will be a next time – we’ll go to the eastern side and complete the circuit. So giddyup.

And though the Seaman Journey wasn’t quite as luxuriously appointed as our other option, we thought it was absolutely perfect. It was still very nice, very modern, very clean and very comfortable. And the crew was just fantastic. Besides, your days are so full and so busy in the Galapagos, you’re only really ever on the boat to eat and to sleep (and maybe celebrate with a few beers before bedtime). So if you’re looking at a trip to the Galapagos, we’d definitely recommend this boat! Check out the Seaman Journey and its current itineraries on the Adventure Life website (click here), and give ’em a shout when it comes time to book. And prepare to have the adventure of a lifetime.

Cheers gang! As always, let us know if you have any questions or comments! And happy travels. 🙂

When did y’all go? Was the water warm enough for snorkeling? I didn’t catch your show until the last five minutes so I missed all the details. Thanks!

    • Hi Sarah! We went to the Galapagos in late October 2014. The water was still pretty chilly, but we were comfortable in wet suits. It was a fantastic trip! LOVED it and hope to return someday. You can now watch the episodes online. Here’s a link to the Galapagos episode http://video.basinpbs.org/video/2365965608/ Do you mind me asking where you saw the show? Thanks so much for watching! And thanks for reaching out!
