Episode Extra: A Look Inside Ireland’s Enchanting Ashford Castle

There’s simply no question. Ireland is absolutely full of breathtaking landscapes, beautiful buildings, incredibly friendly people and of course lots of rich, fascinating history. And Ireland’s spectacular Ashford Castle is a place where all of that magic is seemingly super-concentrated into an unparalleled Irish experience.

As we mentioned in the episode, our room at the Ashford Castle was very likely the most luxurious and indulgent room we’ve ever stayed in. And that is really saying something, because we’ve literally spent hundreds of nights in hotels large and small in cities and countries around the world over the last 20 or so years. And not a single one sticks out in our minds and hearts quite like our stay at this spectacular castle! So it’s a genuine shame then, that we didn’t have more time in the actual episode to delve deeper into the castle, its history and the experiences the good folks at the castle provide for their guests. For example: did you know that the Ashford Castle was built by… beer? True story! Well, sort of. And one that you’ll hear more about in this episode extra, as we visit with the castle’s general manager Niall to get some more insight into this amazing place.

So enjoy! And feel free to drop us a line with any questions or comments, or memories of your own from the Ashford Castle. We’d love to hear them!

Cheers gang! Thanks as always for watching!

This program on PBS was a fascinatingly informative and beautiful journey. My mother was fortunate enough to take a week’s tour of the land of her forefather and left me many memorable photos.

    • Hi Loren! Thank you very much! So glad your mother was able to take that trip and leave you photos. It’s an incredible place for sure. So breathtakingly beautiful, and the people are some of the friendliest we’ve ever met. Sweet, sweet place! 🙂
