From the Episode: A Fascinating and Eye-Opening Visit to the Hanoi Hilton and B-52 Lake in Vietnam

Our day in Hanoi, as you could probably tell, was full of ups and downs. And at the end of the day it was really wonderful to sit on the sidewalk and enjoy a cold, cheap beer at “beer corner” with the locals and reflect on everything we saw, tasted, learned and experienced.

Again, growing up as kids in small towns in the Texas Panhandle, much of what we’d always heard about Vietnam and Hanoi specifically… well, wasn’t exactly positive. And even though so many years have passed since the war and so much has changed in Vietnam in that time, we still weren’t exactly sure what to expect or how we would feel once we arrived there for the first time.

All in all, we absolutely loved our time in Hanoi and the few other small towns we visited during our trip. The people were fantastic, the food was amazing, and Vietnam is a beautiful, beautiful country. It was a terrific experience and like we mentioned in the show, it really helped put everything into context for us. As travel will often very thankfully do.

But to be sure, our visit to the Hanoi Hilton and Huu Tiep Lake (also called Hanoi’s “B-52 Lake”) was a bit difficult, for a lot of reasons. But it was as fascinating, eye-opening and educational as well. And we’re so very glad we took the time to explore both places!

Here is the segment from the show, which is a really interesting watch if you haven’t seen it. And if you have, we’d love to know your thoughts! Feel free to leave us a comment below. And thanks as always for watching!

Cheers y’all. Hugs to everybody.
