Video: Our Search for the Black Rhino in the Ngorongoro Crater

It’s our last day on safari in wild and beautiful Tanzania, and our last chance to fulfill our mission of seeing all five of Africa’s “Big Five” in the wild!

It’s been an amazing adventure so far, and since the safari began we’ve seen some incredible wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, and cape buffalo. Which leaves only one of the legendary “Big Five” to go: the rhinoceros. But we took a pretty big gamble on this trip when we first decided on the particular route we’d take through northern Tanzania. We knew we’d be able to see lots of animals and were confident we’d at least see most of the Big Five along the way, but the only opportunity we’d have to see a rhino would be during the precious few hours we’d get to explore the Ngorongoro Crater – on our very last day. And we’re not just talking any ol’ rhino. We’re talking the elusive and critically endangered black rhino.

To make matters more complicated, despite enjoying near picture-perfect weather for the majority of the trip through Tanzania, the weather turned nasty on us the very morning we arrived at Ngorongoro to begin our search for the rhino. [Go figure.] So safe to say we were really hopeful that we’d at least get a glimpse of the black rhino down in the crater, but realistically we knew the odds weren’t exactly in our favor. Fingers crossed.

So come with us on the final leg of this epic adventure in Tanzania courtesy of our friends at Adventure Life, Tanzania Journeys and Tripfilms. And see how it all turned out! We promise it’s a heck of a ride, either way. 🙂

Cheers y’all!
